Epigem
Limited – The Company
Epigem was established in 1995, following a management buy-out
from ICI Materials by a group of chemists, engineers and physicists
with 15 years experience at the leading edge of polymer product
development. In 1999 we moved to a purpose-built R&D and clean
room manufacturing facility with key processes operated under class
100 conditions. Epigem offers a full spectrum of specialist expertise
from R&D to product manufacture and operates in a global market
with a growing list of customers in Europe, the USA and the Far
East.
Our Products
We manufacture a range of micro-fluid components, specialty flexible
circuit boards, polymer waveguide components, microlens arrays,
diffraction gratings, diffraction lenses and computer generated
holograms. Where necessary Epigem invents new solutions to the opportunities
presented by our customers. All our products are backed up by an
ongoing research and development programme.
Microfluidics
In support of the evolving market for microfluidic devices, Fluence
offers products and services aimed at providing solutions to a variety
of needs.
The Fluence
Microfluidic Tool Kit provides a powerful ‘starter
pack’ for those experimentalists wanting to explore the advantages
offered by microfluidics, whilst also acting as an effective decision
making tool for product and process developers working on microchemical
and microbiological applications.
A Special
Microfluidic Products capability is available to address
the broadening requirements of new microfluidic devices, and is
based on a very high standard of prototyping and product development
services. We design and develop integrated microfluidic solutions,
where functional modules such as temperature control, electrodes
and sensor technology are increasingly important. Working closely
with our clients often results in initial prototype devices being
taken right through to high volume manufactured product.
Other Services involve the support necessary in building practical
microfluidic processing systems that generally require more than
microfluidic chips alone. Services include technology integration,
consulting and assistance regarding automated fluid control systems.
Microlens Arrays
Epigem manufactures customised replica microlens arrays for a wide
variety of optical and opto-electronic applications:
- Liquid crystal displays
- Optical fibre array coupling
- 3-d imaging
- Optical interconnects
- Diffuser screens
- Beam steering
- Adaptive optics
- Optical sensors
- Detector arrays
- Spacial light modulators
Typical design and manufacturing parameters:
- Focal length : 0.02 to 20 mm
- Lens diameter : 0.01 to 3 mm
- Array size : up to 80 mm x 80 mm standard ; larger sizes on
request.
- Packing arrangement : orthogonal, hexagonal, linear etc.
- Lens materials : acrylate or epoxy resins, acrylic
- Substrate materials : rigid or flexible including glass, quartz,
silicon, polycarbonate, polyester (Mylar) or polycarbonate (Lexan)
- Operating temperature range : -30°C to +70°C Relative
humidity : 98% Operating wavelength range : 370 to 2000 nm
- Refractive index : in range 1.45 to 1.56 at 633 nm.
